KISS OF LIFE (키스오브라이프) - Midas Touch
KISS OF LIFE, the four-member girl group under S2 Entertainment that debuted on July 5, 2023, made a comeback today on April 3, 2024 with their first single album "Midas Touch" and the same-titled song as the album's title track. The single album will contain only two tracks, "Midas Touch" and "Nothing", and the physical release will come out in 6 versions: 5 CD versions (one photobook version and 4 member-specific jewel-case versions) and one Poca version (QR card). This single album is the follow-up to the group's second mini album "Born to be XX" that was released on November 8, 2023.

"Midas Touch" is an amazing song. It is sill early April but I strongly believe it will be among the highlights of the year. It brings to mind early 2nd Gen K-pop groups, but in a good way, without trying too hard to imitate or copy anyone specific. In 2024 that is unique, and may I say even fresh. The 4:3 ratio presentation is a nod and a wink that the whole concept and sound is a conscious decision, that it is exactly what they are trying to achieve and that they're not going to apologize for it. You have to admire that confidence.
With a new girl-group debuting every week, and most of them sharing the same concept and sound, Kiss Of Life's new comeback really stands out and grabs your attention. The only complaint is that it is too short, below the 3 minute threshold, which seems to happen a lot lately. By the time it makes you turn your head and listen it has ended. I can't help but feel that a good ending in an alternate tempo with a variation of the main theme would have elevated the song to something really special.
The chorus goes beyond catchy to addictive levels and you can't help but press repeat the moment it ends. Wardrobe, hair-styles and CGI sets and effects look really stunning, unique and expensive, which is a positive sign that their company really believes in them and willing to go the extra mile. In other words, Kiss Of Life made a really impressive comeback today!!
