Kep1er (케플러) - Straight Line
Kep1er, the nine-member project girl group under WAKEONE and Swing Entertainment that was formed through Mnet's reality survival show Girls Planet 999 and debuted t on January 3, 2022, released a new digital single titled "Straight Line" today on April 24, 2024 as a pre-release for their upcoming first Japanese full-length album "Kep1going" that is scheduled to be released on May 8, 2024. This single is the follow-up to the group's third Japanese single "Fly-High" that was released on November 22, 2023 and their fifth Korean mini album "Magic Hour" that was released on September 25, 2023.
"Straight Line" heads in a different direction from all their previous comebacks, displaying the mature side of the members, whose individual charms and personalities were highlighted with a very balanced line distribution and screen time. The song itself is a rollercoaster, a blend of various musical elements that make it a fascinating listen. Their company chose to throw everything at the wall and make an impact. Catchy melodies come one after the other without making the song feel disjointed. You could argue they just followed the "mixx pop" trend, but the end result is way more solid than other similar attempts at that sub-genre. Overall this is one their best songs and the only sad thing is that it came way too late in their career. Kep1er should have debuted with that!
