Song Review: KEP1ER Make A Japanese Comeback With "Grand Prix"

Kep1er (케플러) - Grand Prix

Review

Kep1er's latest Japanese single "Grand Prix" is an energetic pop track with a racing theme. The song expresses "the desire to run to the person you love and the joy when love comes true". Musically, "Grand Prix" employs the trendy sing-talk style in the verses, which can be seen as energetic but empty. The chorus changes tempo and centers around the repetitive "like a grand prix" hook, which gets awkward very fast and ends up being annoying by the end of the track.

Overall, "Grand Prix" showcases Kep1er's bubbly charm and is destined to be popular with their fans. The composition, however, relies too much on current K-pop trends, rather than playing to the group's unique vocal strengths, and he racing concept, while fun, doesn't elevate the generic songwriting enough to make this a standout in Kep1er's discography so far.
