BEWAVE (비웨이브) - SING!

BEWAVE stands out among all other rookie-girl groups because all of its members are already adults, with their oldest member being born in 2001 (23 years old) and their youngest member being born in 2004 (20 years old). The debut age gets lower and lower nowadays with companies debuting 14-year-old girls and not batting an eye-lid and many fans have strongly voiced their displeasure at that practice. BEWAVE brings back the adult K-pop of about 15 years ago when idols were adults in their prime and unashamedly sexy.

The debut album "Be;Wave" by BEWAVE symbolizes the gathering of six members, each with their own charm, to create a new and overwhelming blue wave. The group aims to create a new flow like the start of wave surfing, sometimes strong and sometimes gentle. I don't know why their company chose to label this video as a performance video. It is a lot more than that, and it is certainly better than a lot of "proper" music videos from other groups.

UNICODE (유니코드) -  Let me Love (Prod. by Jin Young) [돌아봐줄래 (Prod. by 진영)]

UNICODE is a five-member girl group under XX Entertainment that consists of members: Erin, Hana, Yura, Soo-Ah and Mio. The group made its debut on April 17, 2024 with its first mini album "Hello, World!" and the song "Let me Love" as the album's title track. The mini album contains six tracks and the physical release on a CD comes out in two versions: Type:A and Type:B.

Track List

  1. "Invi: Bon Voyage"
  2. "Let Me Love (돌아봐줄래) (Prod. by Jinyoung)"
  3. "Blur (불러)"
  4. "Spring in my 20th (스무살의 봄)"
  5. "Drizzle (봄비)"
  6. "Sailors: Outro"
UNICODE (유니코드) - Let me Love

UNICODE stands out among all other rookie-girl groups because all of its members are Japanese. The members were selected through 'Project K', the largest online audition held in Japan. The other distinguishable fact is the group's sound, which heavily brings to mind early GFriend, Apink and Lovelyz. A sound that has been sorely missed in todays' oversaturated K-pop world filled with groups imitating each other. The group embraces this concept while maintaining its freshness and uniqueness so that it feels more like a tribute and not as a copycat group.

"Let me Love" exudes sweetness from its first second and its overlong, melodic chorus stays in your mind a long time after it has finished, begging for a repeat listen. The school setting is the obvious choice for a concept like that and they nail the theme without going overboard. In other words this is one impressive and more than welcome debut. I'm really happy this sound came back!
