Kim Nam Joo (김남주) - BAD

This single marks Nam Joo's first solo release in four years. In this comeback Nam Joo decided to showcase her mature and wilder side going the opposite way from Apink's pure concept. “It’s a concept that other members of Apink cannot pull off — it’s distinctly my color, and that’s why it's in my solo album” she said during a press showcase at the Ilchi Art Hall. She also stated that "it feels like I'm debuting again as a solo artist after not having the opportunity to perform in front of fans during my previous solo release".

The song itself is rather on the short side clocking under the 3 minutes mark. On the other hand it exudes a lot of confidence and honesty. It starts with a solid rhythmic bass and a groovy tempo and increasingly changes and adds more instruments culminating with a brass arrangement for the climax and the chorus. The instrumentation of the song is definitely great but it is actually Nam Joo's vocals that elevate this rather simple song to something special. She handles exceptionally both the soft and the hard parts, the singing and the rapping, the low notes and the high ones, and keeps changing back and forth without making the song feel disjointed. In other words, it is a great song and a great comeback too!
