Song Review: CHUNG HA Makes A Comeback With "EENIE MEENIE" And WENDY (RED VELVET) Comes Back With "Wish You Hell"

CHUNG HA (청하) - EENIE MEENIE (Feat. Hongjoong (ATEEZ))

Chung Ha, the soloist currently under MORE VISION and former member of the project girl-group I.O.I., made a comeback on March 11, 2024 with her seventh digital single "EENIE MEENIE" and the same-titled song as the single's title track. The single will contain two songs and is the follow-up to her second full-length album "Bare&Rare" that was released way back on July 11, 2022 with "Sparkling" as the album's title track. This single marks her first release after departing MNH Entertainment and joining MORE VISION.

Review 

Bare&Rare was intended to be split into two parts, Pt.1 and Pt.2 but after her contract expiration and subsequently departure from MNH Entertainment it was announced that they will not release Pt.2 due to internal circumstances. Chung Ha though has written that she would try to release Pt.2 at the first available opportunity. 

"EENIE MEENIE" features Hongjoong (홍중) of the boy-group ATEEZ under KQ Entertainment as a guest rapper, but although the collaboration raised expectations the song failed to deliver the necessary punch. The melodic lines are rather simple and weak without enough layers to sustain them and the short duration of the song leaves you with only the repetitive eenie meenie on your mind. 

WENDY (웬디) - Wish You Hell 

Release Info & Mini Bio 

Wendy, the idol-singer under SM Entertainment and member of the girl group Red Velvet and the female unit GOT the beat, made a comeback on March 12, 2024 with her second mini album "Wish You Hell" and the same-titled song as the album's title track. The album will contain six tracks and the physical release on a CD will come out in two versions: Package and Photobook version. Wendy made her solo debut on April 5, 2021 with the mini album "Like Water" and this album is the follow-up to that album although in the meantime she released, but not promoted, a couple of digital singles, including the collaboration with MeloMance "Miracle", that was released on January 26, 2023.

Review 

The song may seem simplistic at first but the composition has many layers, with various different melodies in the background, that make it more and more interesting after each listening. Wendy's vocals are top notch once again and match perfectly the retro-gothic aesthetic. The chorus lyric variations aren't tiresome at all making the song super-catchy and enjoyable even after many repetitions. All in all a very pleasant surprise from Wendy!
