NMIXX - Soñar (Breaker)
Review
"Soñar (Breaker)" is a song that dances on the edge of the group's past and future as it marks a return to the group's unique "mixx pop" sound, characterized by its abrasive, intense, and somewhat disjointed style. The song's structure is pretty straightforward this time, anchored by a chanted chorus that feels almost like an incantation. The verses vary in tone, with the first verse featuring a shouty sing-talk and the second verse offering a more subdued melodic segment. The song's instrumental surges with SuperM-style bombast, creating a cinematic opening that feels like a battle is about to start.
However, the girls' vocals feel a bit forced and strained, and the obvious lack of catchy hooks is more than obvious, making the song feel more monotonous than exciting. The repetitive chorus, that intended to be catchy, ends up being tiring and some may even say annoying.
The song's lyrics focus primarily on the power of dreams and the determination to pursue them. They convey a sense of longing, ambition, and breaking free from societal expectations. The lyrics embrace uniqueness and imagination, encouraging listeners to seize the moment and take control of their destinies. Personally, I consider it one their best songs and I thoroughly enjoyed this comeback.
