Song Review: PUZZLE, The Korean-Japanese Project Group, Debuts With "SAVIOR"

PUZZLE (퍼즐) - SAVIOR

Review

PUZZLE's debut single "SAVIOR" is a high-energy, genre-blending track that showcases the multinational girl group's potential. The song opens with an eerie chant before exploding into an upbeat, almost militaristic beat. Rap verses from Chaerin collide with saccharine pop hooks as the members declare "I'm your savior". The production keeps you on your toes, shifting from marching band drums to creepy synths to bubblegum bounce.

While the kitchen-sink approach is ambitious, "SAVIOR" ultimately lacks a cohesive identity. The song's many ideas don't quite gel into the debut knockout punch PUZZLE is aiming for. Still, there are flashes of the group's charms - Sulhee and Roko's powerful vocals, Honoka and Chaerin's sharp dance skills, Mizuki's visual prowess.

As a debut, "SAVIOR" does its job of building anticipation for PUZZLE's future. Here's hoping they find their footing and deliver on their potential. The pieces are there - it's a matter of putting the puzzle together.
