BLACKPINK Finally Make A Comeback After Two Years With "Pink Venom"

BLACKPINK - Pink Venom

Blackpink, the four-member girl super group under by YG Entertainment, released a new song today on August 19, 2022 titled "Pink Venom" as a pre-release single for their upcoming second full-length album "Born Pink" that is scheduled to be released on September 16, 2022. This album will be the follow-up to their first full-length album "The Album" that was released back in October 2, 2020. Therefore this song marks their first release in almost two years, although in the meantime they released Japanese versions of their songs, live albums and a promotional single.

Unfortunately, at least for me, the song is BAD. Almost un-listenable. I can't find anything positive to write about this specific song. I thought about writing a ten-page essay on why this song is bad analyzing every little thing but then I decided against it. This is a pop song. You should be able to like it on first listen. If you did not like it but keep listening to it hoping to find something, you are just trying to brainwash yourself.

I recently saw again this video which explains why modern pop music is so bad and the moment I heard "Pink Venom" it came rushing back to my mind. Every point made in that video is true for the new Blackpink song. And the saddest part is that YG and Teddy are aware of those points and they just don't care. YG has managed to change Blackpink from a K-pop group to a brand name. And like most brands, like "Hello Kitty" for example, they don't need to have anything substantial behind them. For Blackpink the brand music is an afterthought, one of the many different promotional things the brand does to maintain its popularity. Music for a brand just needs to exist, to be out there, not to be good.

It is so painfully obvious that this song is targeted at their core fanbase, people who already love the brand. This is not a song for people who like K-pop music in general and they don't expect to bring new people to the brand. Music is just a vessel to promote the brand. And the brand just happens to sell music among other things. And that's why I am sad and disappointed. Because I really liked Blackpink the K-pop group.
