PIXY (픽시) - Villain
Review
"Villain" is a weird song, but in a good way. It features a monotone tempo with whisper-singing vocals and a more upbeat and fun electro beat compared to their previous tracks. "Villain" showcases the group's potential in a track that starts slowly and gets more up-beat as it progresses. The song mixes too many ideas, that may seem a mess at first listen, but the layered melodies expose themselves after repeat hearings displaying a solid and cohesive song and experience. The chorus, with the spoken "villain" word intermingled, gets addictive very fast, resulting in an unforgettable chorus that gives the song a unique identity. "Villain" manages to blend the group's signature dark-horror concept with an upbeat, disco-like tempo, while the instrumental interlude and chanting section work as wake-up calls from the enchanting, hypnotic verses. Lyrically, "Villain" ties into PIXY's ongoing storyline, with the members no longer portrayed as fairies but reborn beings on a mission to bring evil to justice. In conclusion, PIXY, returned with a very memorable. and catchy song, without sacrificing their original dark and mysterious concept.
