Review
Twice's latest album, "Perfect World", is a rather daring release, offering a hard-hitting sound in contrast to their bubblegum singles. The first verse and pre-chorus aren't particularly inspiring, but the chorus delivers an aggressive rebuke to a scorned lover. The vocals are commanding and emotive, free from the shackles of aegyo and cute affectations.
Despite some rough edges, Perfect World's overall effect is quite powerful. Lyrically, the song expresses a bitter send-off to an ex-lover, with lines like "Get out, get lost; A wholehearted rejection". While the energy dips slightly in the second verse, some interesting production choices maintain the listener's interest until the chorus returns, with a kick drum in the bridge ramping up momentum until the song's climax. Accompanied by a music video depicting the girls performing intense choreography as the stage crashes and burns around them, "Perfect World" makes a bold statement for TWICE's evolving artistry. It's their most daring Japanese release yet.
