Song Review: HEYGIRLS Release New Song "I Cook" After Almost 3 Years

HEYGIRLS (헤이걸스) - I Cook (아이쿠)

Review

Unfortunately, once again, the budget is very low and it shows. The music video is very basic and that was to be expected, but the most unfortunate thing is the production again. The arrangement is good with some nice key melodies and countermelodies in the background, but they are both buried so deep in the mixing no one will hear them. The repetitive nature of the song also enhances the problem, because there are no variations of the themes to keep the listener interested for the whole duration. On top of that the vocals feel rather raw, high-pitched and unprocessed. Overall, the song had potential but budget limitations resulted in a quite average and bland track.

Release Info & Mini Bio

HeyGirls is a six-member girl group under Moai Entertainment. The group was originally called Black Queen and debuted on October 19, 2012 with the digital single "Good Girl". Then after numerous line-up changes they re-debuted in 2016 as HeyGirls. HeyGirls released their fifth digital single "I Cook" on April 29, 2021. Although technically this is a comeback, in reality it is more of a debut since this is the actual debut for four out of five members. Out of the five members (six if you count Dami who is currently on hiatus) only Daeun (다은) is an original member (she joined in 2016). The other members are: Sulhee (설희) (joined in 2019), Jein (제인) (joined in 2020), Sara (사라) (joined in 2020) and Chaerin (채린) (joined in 2020).
