LOONA (이달의 소녀) - Why Not?
Review
The album follows the band's previous release, "So What", which showcased a more bold direction. The songs, which have a more attitude-driven sound than melody, are reminiscent of new-generation groups like ITZY. The song follows the trends of 2020, with a spirited sense of rebellion and a rap-like sound. The pre-chorus features a melodic portion, reminiscent of second-generation SM girl groups like Girls' Generation.
However, the girls manage to pull off the style well during the verses, but the bassline feels recycled from recent tracks. Instead of transitioning into a conventional chorus, "Why Not?" presents a two-part hook with only the first half being enjoyable, with its refreshing change in vocal texture. The song, however, falters in its second segment, with a lackluster, spoken-word follow-up that fails to bring anything new to the track.
