Song Review: A-REAL Debuts With "Wake Me Up" And FLORIA With "CHITTY CHITTY"

Review

The song's title and repeated phrase "wake me up" can be seen as a call to action, urging the listener to break out of their comfort zone and start anew. The lyrics also touch on the themes of self-discovery and self-expression, with lines such as "I'm here, hesitating, if you lose this shimmer, there's only one chance" and "Everything is in your heart, throw away all fears". "Wake Me Up" is simply an average song. There is nothing exceptionally bad, but there is nothing that stands out either. If you could make a computer write a song it would probably sound like "Wake Me Up". This isn't a song that would stay on any K-pop fan's playlist for long.

A-REAL (에이리얼, also stylized as AREAL) is a four-member girl group under JZ Factory Entertainment which made their debut on August 21, 2020 with the digital single "Wake Me Up". The group consists of members: Areum (아름), Hyebin (혜빈), Segye (세계) and Dabi (다비). The single contain three tracks.

FLORIA (플로리아) - CHITTY CHITTY

Review

FLORIA's company choose a very bad period to release this debut, with many major groups making their comebacks at the same time. The music video looks enjoyable and the song is catchy, but there is nothing exceptional, nothing unique to showcase the group's identity. The song could easily belong to any number of other similarly bubbly girl-groups. The energy and concept is reminiscent of Japan's idol groups, with its simplistic choreography and repetitive sections, which is not bad, but again it is something we have seen and heard before thousands of times, and not a good choice for a debut song from an unknown company.

Floria (플로리아) is a four-member girl group under DK Entertainment. and the label's second girl group, after A-Daily. Floria debuted on August 11, 2020 with the single album "Chitty Chitty" and the same titled song as the album's title track. The group consists of members: Su Mi (수미), Jo-A Ra (조아라), Ha Yeon (하연) and Ye Seul (예슬). The album will contain two songs and the instrumental versions of them and a physical album will only available for purchase through Floria's fan café, with the first batch of albums being shipped out on August 3.
